Go Northwest, Campers on Mission!By Yvonne McGee, Special to The Baptist CourierPublished May 25, 2007
Big opportunities abound this summer for people who like to travel in their RVs and want to do volunteer short-term missions work.
Yvonne McGee From Farmington, Maine, to Key West, Fla. — and on to Canada and Alaska — South Carolina Campers on Mission help churches and communities in times of rebuilding and recovery. In June and July, members of South Carolina Campers on Mission will mobilize for trips to Alaska and Canada for various missions projects, including construction. The theme for the Northwest trek is “Go Northwest, COM. Answering His call, telling His story, changing our world as we go,” according to coordinators Wintford and Martha Haynes of the North American Mission Board. In Alaska, the Hayneses are preparing to lead teams to areas in and around Fairbanks, Anchorage and Delta Junction. On the return trip, teams may stop in Alberta, Canada, for more missions opportunities. The trips are planned for June and July, but people interested in participating should contact the Hayneses immediately at 256-775-7596 to begin the time-critical process of obtaining passports and proper insurance coverage. Many South Carolina Campers on Mission will gather in Lebanon, Tenn., June 20-22 for the national Campers on Mission annual rally. After the meeting, several from South Carolina will make the Northwest trip. Steve Grant, president of South Carolina Campers on Mission, encourages interested people to contact him at 843-618-8058, or Tim Rice, missions mobilization coordinator for the South Carolina Baptist Convention, at 800-723-7242. |
