Pastor Donnie Murdock of First Creek Baptist Church, Iva, recently baptized Sarah Beth Kimsey, one of 10 children who accepted Christ during the church’s Vacation Bible School.
Chaplain Ted Keller received a golf cart and trailer from members and RAs at White Rock Baptist Church, Lexington Baptist Association. The golf cart will help him be more mobile at his truckers’ ministry, Transport for Christ, located at exit 71, off I-20. During a Women On Mission visit to Keller’s ministry, Keller expressed a desire for a golf cart to help him because of his health problems. Deacon Mac Kohr took this need to the congregation and they, along with the RA group led by Ray Gaillard, began collecting money for the project. Friends outside the church who support Keller also contributed. On Sept. 10 during the worship service, chaplain Keller, who was the state missions speaker at White Rock Baptist, was presented the golf cart and trailer. A group of youth and two chaperones from Nebo Baptist Church, Britton’s Neck, spent a week this past summer in Greenville working in soup kitchens, delivering Meals on Wheels and helping remodel homes of some senior citizens. Wilma Herring, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, was honored by Memorial Baptist Church, Ravenel. Herring, who was born in Prattsville, Ala., has lived in Ravenel for 47 years. She has eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She is also a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and The Order Amerath, and she enjoys watching the Atlanta Braves. A two-octave set of handbells were dedicated by Latta Baptist Church, Pee Dee Association, during morning worship Sept. 10. The pastor led in a special responsive reading committing the bells and the choir to the service of Lord. Shelby Jean Amaker was recognized by the Sunday school department of First Baptist Church, North, for more than 35 years as preschool class teacher. Pastor Brett Mask presented an engraved women’s study Bible on behalf of the church.
Carolina Baptist Association Mission Team 2006, consisting of 29 people from eight different churches, recently traveled again to Pippa Passes, Ky. They distributed 248 book bags with school supplies, gave out 78 health kits, held two backyard Bible clubs, did several construction projects and saw 26 people come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Twenty-one members of Dogwood Hill Baptist Church — who were part of the Carolina Baptist Association Mission Team 2006 that ministered in Kentucky — led the youth in a worship service, and members of the Brotherhood from Bethlehem Baptist Church, Conway, (right) helped paint the home of a widow in Pippa Passes, Ky.

Calvary Baptist Church, Columbia, commissioned a group this past June to travel to Romania to help spread the gospel. Joining with other youth and adults from around the country, the team of more than 100 ministered in Oradea, Romania, to street orphans, youth and families in city parks. David Cromer, pastor of Willow Creek Baptist Church, Pamplico, and his wife Nancy traveled to Chelyabinsk, Russia, to perform the wedding of their exchange student, Evgeniya (Jane) Klyachko to Andrey Panov. They also attended Jane’s graduation from South Urals State University. While in Russia, they visited St. Petersburg and Moscow. Ann Matthews accompanied them. A group from Ben Avon Baptist Church, Spartanburg, recently went on a mission trip to East Liverpool, Ohio, where they painted a house and worked with a children’s ministry. Olanta Baptist Church, Williamsburg Association, held a baseball/softball clinic for boys and girls, ages 6-12, Sept. 9 at the Thomason Athletic complex in Olanta. There were approximately 35 participants (pictured above is the younger group; below is the older group). Stations were set up where each participant could learn a particular skill: hitting drills, fielding fly balls and ground balls, and base running. After the boys and girls visited the stations, they played a scrimmage game against each other.
Pine Level Baptist Church, Grays, collected more than $2,400 for its mission project “Pine Level Christmas Stocking,” during the church’s Vacation Bible School. A total of 308 children were enrolled, and 38 made professions of faith. Genia Crosby was director for this year’s VBS.
Jordan Memorial Baptist Church, Greenwood, will celebrate its centennial Oct. 15. Interim pastor Glenn Mosteller will deliver the morning message at 11 a.m., and David Little, Lakelands Baptist associational missionary will be guest speaker for the afternoon service at 2 p.m. |
