An Encouraging Word … by Don WiltonBy Don Wilton, SCBC PresidentPublished October 17, 2006
I cannot tell you what a pleasure and honor it is to write this short note to you this month. The Baptist Courier is such a blessing to our state convention, and we are so grateful for Don Kirkland and his wonderful team, as well as the trustees. How grateful we are, indeed, for all those who serve in so many capacities as we seek to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ here in South Carolina and beyond.
Don Wilton I have just returned from the Executive Board meeting at our beautiful White Oak Conference Center. You must visit White Oak and see for yourself just how much God has blessed us through this facility and the team who serves us there. The executive meeting was a blessing beyond description. I just couldn’t get over all these men and ladies who travel literally from all over our state to do the business of our calling. They are so dedicated. As we approach the annual convention meeting in November, I want you to know that the thoroughness with which every committee has approached their assigned tasks, the questions asked, and the massive effort to seek God’s face in prayer are a hallmark of every decision made. It is no wonder that the culminating year of Dr. Driggers’ remarkable ministry among us is being held on the highest possible note. The South Carolina Baptist Convention is doing very well indeed. Every report I heard was accompanied by praise to the Lord, and the joy with which these men and women do their duty is very significant indeed. We also heard from the chairman of the executive director search committee that good progress was being made in this vital assignment. There is no doubt in my mind that South Carolina Baptists are not the least bit concerned about the speed with which Dr. Driggers’ successor is presented to us. All we are concerned about is that he is God’s man, appointed by God Himself, to lead us in the work God has called us to do. This search committee is doing outstanding work. They represent men and women from across the state, and we will pray for them. Be encouraged in your heart, my friends. Our God is at work, and the best is yet to be. I can’t wait to see you at Taylors First Baptist as we “Give It Away.” |
