Discipleship comes first
Letters to the Editor
By Rob Pierce, Latta
Date March 1, 2010
- As a pastor in this state for nine years, I have always made the State Evangelism Conference a priority on my calendar. This year’s offerings of speakers were superb, and I personally needed to hear the messages that were preached, as well as the importance of GPS (God’s Plan for Sharing) that every church can adapt as a tool for evangelism in their community.

GuideStone rep needed
Letters to the Editor
By John Dill, Anderson
Date March 1, 2010
- I was born in 1946, and I am classified as the eldest of the Baby Boomer generation. I am grateful for the 63 years our Father has allowed me to live and to serve him, and it has been my privilege to pastor, serve under appointment of the International Mission Board, and now serve in our state as an associational missionary.

Depressed need support
Letters to the Editor
By Bill Mason, Varnville
Date March 1, 2010
- I am 73, and perhaps my words will have some positive thought to add to what has been already said. I am not a minister. I am a retired layman who worked in layman’s occupations, but I have suffered depression.

Don’t ‘under-spiritualize’
Letters to the Editor
By Steven R. Owensby, Enoree
Date March 1, 2010
- As I read the letters in response to the one I submitted Feb. 4, I was surprised that my words did not come across with the precision and clarity I had intended. My letter was not written to offend anyone, but in an attempt to offer the only medicine I know to be effective when it comes to the battleground of the mind.

Depression: No one immune
Letters to the Editor
By John Ward, Anderson
Date March 1, 2010
- Dr. Crowe was correct (“Your Views,” Feb. 18). Depression itself is not a sin, nor is it always the result of sin. Its primary cause is an imbalance or lack of certain neurotransmitter chemicals in the brain.

Ministry to deaf needed
Letters to the Editor
By Paul May, President, South Carolina Baptist Conference of the Deaf
Date March 1, 2010
- We minister to and represent the South Carolina Baptist Conference of the Deaf, affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Deaf and hard-of-hearing people are a unique, vibrant and active group with their own language and culture. They live in the same way as other hearing people in the majority world. But there is one factor that affects this community in all facets of life: communicating with those who can hear.
